If you are a student or an emerging fashion or beauty industry professional, this letter is for you.
Dear Reader,
The foundation of your career is key to success. Whether trying out something new or elevating your skills, volunteering can benefit your growth. Here are 3 key factors and some advice when volunteering for a fashion show.
Connections: Your network is your net worth... LITERALLY. Fashion shows are filled with industry experts from all aspects of the career force. It doesn't just stop at the production's front house and back house but it goes beyond and you NEVER know who you'll meet. Creative directors build relationships with retail brands from luxury to ready-to-wear, media companies, marketing geniuses, wholesale buyers, beauty professionals, and much more. You don't have to pick just one. Connect with as many people as possible because a dream position may be on the other side.
Experience: TRUE STORY. Before founding We Art Co. I was a production makeup artist for about 3 years. Although I did not stay in that particular field I did build relationships in other areas of interest. You don't have to be perfect. More than likely there will be a coordinator assisting you or another professional who can help. Experience is how you get a taste of if it's something you want to do for the long term or short term. Some opportunities are paid and some are not. When deciding where to experience think about the assets and liabilities. If the assets outweigh the liabilities go for it. If not experience at your own risk.
Development: To second experience, building up your resume can benefit you in the long run. It's how you better yourself and how you become an expert. The great thing about the fashion and beauty industry is the list of things you can do without having a degree.
Sincerely @weartnpo Founder and President,
Jasper SM.
