Fashion Designer, Mentor, and Producer Shay Sutton, from Philadelphia, PA, developed a legacy with Pitch Black Fashion Week. This week is dedicated to women who deal with domestic violence. The idea was originally supposed to be a one-time event in remembrance of her past Vice President and Model, Vanessa Banks but after the first show, a young lady told her not to let the platform die because her daughter died the same way. From that moment Shay knew she couldn’t let Pitch Black Fashion Week fade away. 6 years later, the platform is still alive and impacts every area it’s showcased. Her main goal is to raise enough funds to build a safe house for domestic violence victims.
July 24, 2021, PBFW Excellence Awards - Shay recognized industry professionals for their overall accomplishment for the year 2021 with a special guest appearance from R&B Artist J.Brown who performed his new hit “Vibe” produced by GC. Photographer, Antoinne Duane Jones won Top Photographer, Kim Harley won Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist of the Year, Top Fashion Designer was tied between Alex Holliman and Stacy Hogan, and Taylor Green-Shine won Top Model of the Year.
July 25, 2021, The Rebirth Show - Over the years Shay has given other designers opportunities to be showcased but this year she changed things around to give herself a chance to shine. The Rebirth Show consisted of numerous designs from lingerie wear to high couture attire from her line Scripted 1 and Saint XIV. During the show, dancers performed and the audience participated in a runway competition with Ytteb Boutique. The Rebirth Show also included pieces from upcoming designer Jazzy Jenae founder Balayza Beauty. All hair and makeup services were provided by Keune Academy by 124 (@keuneacademyby124) located in Lawrenceville, GA, and The Show was hosted by Fashion Model Marquis Jarrod (@marquis_jarrard) and Rashad Sutton (@sonof_damayor) Co-Owner of Bonheir Magazine.
Backstage models had so many great things to say about Suttons’ journey. Her team has been by her side since the very beginning. What the models love most about her designs is that each piece is vertical. It can look one way on one model and look different on the other. With 20 years of experience in the industry, Shay is bound to leave behind an unforgettable legacy.
